Bangkok:- The Culture Ministry has threatened to take legal action against models at the on-going 36th Bangkok International Motor show for having exposed themselves too much.
Culture Minister Veera Rojpojanarat said he had received a lot of complaints that many models in the motor show fair had dressed improperly.
Veera said complaints were especially raised against a brand for showing body painting on some models that was considered to be too much exposed.
The minister said he has seen the photos of body-painted models and he thought they were revealing too much and their act was not appropriate for the Thai culture.
“I’ll have the Culture Watch Office coordinate with that brand and the organizer to make sure that the models get dressed properly,” Veera said.
Yupha Thaweewatanakijboworn, director of the Culture Watch Office, said she had assigned her officials to coordinate with the Royal Thai Police to take legal actions against the models who revealed themselves “too much”.
Yupha said the act of models might be deemed indecent act that violated Article 388 of the Criminal Code.
She said the article prohibited any person from carrying out an embarrassing act by exposing himself or herself or doing any other indecent activity in public place. Such a violation would be subject to a fine of Bt5,000, she added.
Her office will gather pictures of too-much revealing models at the motor show for using as evidence for taking action, she added.
“They have clearly violated the law,” Yupha said. She also warned social networkers not to share the models’ photos as they could be deemed violating the computer crime act too.

Netizens warned against sharing improper images of pretties in social media

BANGKOK: -- Netizens have been told by the Ministry of Culture not to share the images of scantily-dressed motor show pretties in the social media warning that they may face legal actions.

Mrs Yupa Thaveewattanakitborn, director of culture monitoring office, said today that the images posted on the social media of models with their bodies painted and scantily dressed at the Bangkok International Motor Show held at Muang Thong Thani were indecent and construed as a violation of the Criminal Code.

She said that the models in question could face a fine of 5,000 baht for indecent act whereas those who posted or shared the images in the media would be liable to charges under the computer law.

Meanwhile, Culture Minister Veera Rojpojanarat said he would ask car companies participating in the motor show to ensure that the models are dressed more properly.

Thailand’s cultural guardians kicked into overdrive Wednesday after models covered only in body paint got patrons at a Bangkok International Motor Show preview a bit too revved up. Culture Minister Weera Rojpotchanarat vowed to fine the "pretties" up to 5,000 baht each for public indecency and prosecute anyone sharing photos of them online following complaints from attendees of Tuesday's VIP and press preview. The show at Bangkok Impact Arena opened publicly on Wednesday and will run until April 5.

Mr Weera said the ministry could not sit idle following complaints that models showed off curves on more than just cars. One booth had models outfitted in only tiny bikinis and body paint.

Such revealing attire did not fit the cultural context of Thailand, he said and called for cooperation from the organisers to have models cover up.

Bangkok:- Thai girls who may be pondering to join the new trend of “underboob selfies”, should have the second thought as the Culture Ministry warned that they could end up violating the Computer Crime Act.

According to Thairath Online, the warning came from Yupha Thaweewattanakijborworn, director of the Culture Watch Office of the Culture Ministry.

Many foreign women have joined the so-called underboob selfies trend by taking photos of their body up from the waist to the breast without showing the nipples.

Yupha also urged the Thai media not to play up the trend if the media has not seen underboob selfies by Thai women yet. She explained that such reports might backfire rather than doing good to the society.

She said if Thai women post underboob selfie photos, they may be deemed breaking the Computer Crime Act by putting pornographic pictures into computer system.

She added that the Culture Ministry does not support Thai women to be scantily clad in public places, and it would become a serious problem for the society if many Thai girls follow the example.

Thairath Online also interviewed Roongtawan Chaiha, an Internet idol who rose to her fame by posting her own sexy photos on her Munkaw Chaos Girl Facebook fan page, said she has no plan to catch the underboob seflies trend. So far, her page has received over 470,000 likes mostly from men.

Munkaw, who has proudly announced that her breast is her selling point, said the Thai society would not accept such the underboob trend. Posting photos partially revealing the breast from the high angle of view is already causing serious trouble for her, she added.

Don’t they have anything better to do than going after a bunch of skanky looking models scantily clad in body paint. There is child prostitution, internal political issues, prostitution in general, the economy to worry about it. Not this. Let it go!

And, how can this be a law?

Section 32 of the Alcohol Beverage Control Act 2008 prohibits the advertising of alcohol drinks, their brands and trademarks in a way that encourages consumption, directly or indirectly.

What are they trying to do ban alcohol completely from Thailand? The whole point of advertising is to make products encouraging to consume. Why don’t they just be blunt about it? Alcohol is illegal. There, that is more clear and giving me less of a headache. Beer companies in Thailand sponsor concerts, we should ban that too because it encourages alcohol consumption. We should close all the bars in Thailand, but they are not going to do that because it will totally sink Thai tourism. They are just scratching the surface and just fronting by saying alcohol consumption is wrong but not really acting on it. What a load of hypocrisy! By the way, blurring alcohol bottles in lakorn doesn’t help much, it’s downright annoying and makes me focus on it more.

Leo Beers (a beer brand under Singha Beer company, the largest beer company in Thailand) releases a girly calendar with their logo in the background each year. This year was no different and the calendar was produce by “Lukkade” Metinee Kingpayom and apparently it’s against the law because it’s a form of print advertisement for alcohol. So the government is banning the sale and distribution of this controversial calendar. Now there is all this buzz about it. Read more about it here and an opinion piece about it here.

I know many of you might harp on me for having this viewpoint, like several readers at Manager news website who are condemning “Lukkade” Metinee Kingpayom, calling her unladylike, not Thai for bringing smut into Thai culture. Personally, I would never buy the calendar, I’m a girl who doesn’t drink but it doesn’t mean I’m going to force my believe system on you. Everyone wants to save the community and restore traditions, the community doesn’t need saving, you need to save yourself first. Sure it’s the against the law (note some laws need to be broken), but the calendar is not even that bad–it’s just a bunch of skanky looking girls (hopefully they are not like that in real life) posing semi-nude. If you don’t like it don’t buy it.

You know how guys love going to auto shows to see the "pretties" draped across the latest motoring innovations in breathtakingly tight outfits cut all the way down to there and up to here? Well, the guys in Shanghai have just had some bad news - no pretties at this year's car show. They'll just have to take their cameras (and lust) elsewhere.

There was immediate and furious protest - from the pretties, though, not the guys. The abruptly out-of-work lovelies staged a demonstration outside Xujianhui Station in Metro City, dressed in "rags" and pretended to be begging for money. "We want to survive!" their placards said. All their efforts to stay slim (yet busty) had been in vain, the girls complained, much to the delight of everyone on Weibo, China's answer to Twitter.

The English-language Shanghaiist.com found the story pretty amusing too, as did mainstream Chinese newspapers and foreign tabloids like Britain's Daily Mail, which noted mixed reactions over the protest. Many commentators felt the models should be allowed to earn a living from their looks, but others seemed to think that car shows should be about, you know, cars. What a concept!

Visitors to the China Daily website insisted that the state shouldn't be meddling with morality. "If you think it's immoral, it's because your mind is immoral," someone said. "There are far worse social problems for the authorities to address than this."

Well put, but then this is China. Just let General Prayut try and kick the ladies out of Thailand's car shows - the tanks would surely roll again.

A WARNING is doing the rounds on Line of how social-media users could face a criminal charge if they carelessly post photos of inappropriate acts by other people or themselves.

The warning was actually a re-run message after many recent cases of people who got into trouble because of their use of the media.

A man posted pictures of a police officer in plainclothes wearing a police helmet near the boot of a car parked in a 'No Parking' area and accused the officer of abusing his power beyond his duty hours.

The officer and his supervisor clarified later that the officer was actually removing a wheel clamp from the man's car after he had paid a fine. His shift was over and he was going home but he did not want the car owner to wait too long for another officer. So he decided to go and remove the clamp although he had changed his clothes. However, he wore the helmet with his police identification number.

Despite an apology, the police officer decided to sue the man for violation of the Computer Crime Act for fabricating the story and defaming him.

Mana Treelayapewat, a journalism lecturer, commented on Facebook: "Is this an example of 'Rashomon in the digital Age?' What is false, what is the truth?"

Nanthasit Nitmetha wrote: "This is the time where everybody has the media in their hands, but not so that they can make up stories or accuse anyone."

@JesJueJang wrote on Twitter: "The man violated the No Parking sign and still used many excuses. Shame on him."

On kapook.com's web-board, users argued who deserved to be blamed.

Ton Hate posted: "People quarrelled because of the media. They did not verify the news properly before publicising it. People then have different opinions."

Oho replied: "Don't just blame the media. Don't you have any consideration of your own?"

HeHeHe wrote: "Stories posted on Facebook have lower credibility. Unless you have a point to make, just stay still and don't get yourself in trouble by posting."

Late last month, foreign and Thai media outlets reported on a video clip purportedly showed three Leicester City footballers engaging in sex acts with three Thai girls while calling them racially derogatory terms during their tour in Thailand.

Thousands of Thai Web users took to social media to voice their displeasure over the video, the football club and the club's Thai owners - King Power International Group.

Leicester City issued a statement that the three players were being sent home ahead of the rest of the team and an investigation was being conducted. It said the players had apologised and the club would take the incident seriously.

Leicester Thailand Fan Club page publicised the statement. However, almost a week after the incident, some Facebook followers were still posting comments about the players' conduct.

Trok Khaosan TrokKhaosan: "I no longer support this team. What the three players did was so depressing. I will no longer buy the clothing, souvenirs or buy anything at any King Power shop unless there is clear and quicker punishment. I am really sorry to see Thai women insulted."

Chiranan Toey: "That's it. No more support for this team."

Jrchai Techa: "I still keep supporting the team. But there must be proper investigation and punishment."

Earlier, a young woman had to rush and turn herself in to police after she posted a picture of a police ticket on Facebook with the caption that she had failed an alcohol test, recording 90mg per cent of alcohol, which exceeded the 50mg per cent limit. She could have been jailed but luckily, with some strong backing, she was released after receiving a ticket for only a Bt500 fine for driving without licence.

Netizens condemned her and accused the police that issued the ticket of malfeasance. The police said that the woman did not take any alcohol test. Finally she reported to the police station and apologised for her post. A few people really know whether she took an alcohol test, but she has learnt an important lesson about social media use already: be very careful.
